General Manager

Responsible for leadership of all aspects of the Werribee Basketball Association, the General Manager will work with the Board to ensure that Werribee Basketball is the association of choice in Melbourne’s west, as well as solidifying Werribee Basketball as a major player and influencer in the broader Victorian Basketball landscape.

This will be achieved through working with key stakeholders to develop and implement the business growth strategy, then implementing programs and initiatives as well as overseeing the day to day operations of the association (junior domestic, senior domestic, representative, and other programs).

The General Manager must successfully balance the growth and welfare of the game with sound financial management, and strong and vibrant relationships with the players, supporters, volunteers, media, commercial partners as well as Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia. To be considered for this role you will need to possess senior leadership experience gained within a significant commercial or sporting organisation, or other relevant context.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT CRITERIA

  • Experience in a senior leadership role in a membership-based organisation, preferably in a basketball or other sporting association
  • Experience in operating within an executive group and interacting with a variety of senior stakeholders including peak sporting bodies, government entities, not-for-profit and/or corporate businesses
  • Tertiary degree in sports management, business management, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing a wide variety of people, including executives, staff and volunteers
  • Financial management skills for the association, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Program management skills including cost & schedule management and status reporting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including MS PowerPoint or equivalent

Game Day Supervisors

The Game Day Supervisors are tasked with the efficient running of the WBA Domestic Competition days, responsible for monitoring and observing game day to ensure smooth operation of the competition, the collection of all game fees and referee payments conducted under the auspices of the WBA, and rostering referees to games.

Supervisors are to observe and support Referees at all WBA Domestic Competitions and VJBL games, ensuring the associations strategies, values and policies are promoted.

This is a casual position requiring work primarily during evenings and weekends. It would suit individuals who enjoy non-regular working hours, and/or those who are employed during normal business hours Monday to Friday and are seeking supplemental income out-of-hours.  All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Australia and must be aged over 18 years.

SELECTION CRITERIA

You will be passionate about developing and making a contribution to the WBA business. The successful candidate will require a range of personal and professional skills, including:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Good knowledge of the game of basketball
  • Possess computer literacy and basic numeracy
  • Become proficient in the use of Referee Manager, within 2 weeks of commencing
  • Have strong people skills and be a clear and empathetic communicator
  • Able to work independently
  • Possess a current Working with Children Check

DESIRABLE:

  • Hold a Victorian drivers license
  • Hold a current first-aid certificate
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous customer relationship experience
  • Familiar with Sports TG system
  • Familiar with Stadium Scoring systems
